The Chevalier Thibault de Mont St Martin

Born in English occupied Gascony, Thibault is the 4th son of a minor knight. As such he was not planning to inherit anything of his father's meagre estates. His only options in life were the church or as a soldier.

Leaving the family home, he made his way to the northern city states of the Italian peninsula. There he fought in many minor campaigns between the many rival cities, learning his trade as a swordsman. He solidly worked his way up to company commander in the army of the Duke of Milan where his skills were recognised, not the least in some minor tournaments.

Thibault had the good fortune to capture the Florentine banner in one campaign and was rewarded with knighthood by the Duke himself. It was after this his career as a successful tournament contender won him a small fortune, and the eye of many young ladies.

He returned to Gascony a wealthy man and took up a position as Captain of one of England's many frontier castles in the constant war with France. It was here he married the wealthy Italian heiress Constanza Vitellini di Firenze and recently their first daughter was born.

He is currently in England awaiting new orders from his liege, the King himself, and is entertaining himself with as many passages of arms as he can find. He favours the hand-and-a-half sword (otherwise known as the bastard sword as it is neither one nor two handed) but has also found a fondness for his new two handed pole-hammer.

Note: Thibault is a fictional character indicative of the rising class of lesser knights during the era of the 100 Years War. With the high attrition rates of the upper classes, swift promotion of capable military men was quite common.
